Saddles and Paddles in Hovsgol
August 9 - 25, 1998.

August 9 Depart for Beijing.

August 10: Arrive Beijing, overnight in hotel.

August 11: Morning flight to Ulaan Baatar, capitol of Mongolia. Meet local translators and guides. City tour and overnight in hotel.

August 12: Fly to Moron in Hovsgol aimag. Meet horses and wranglers. Camp out.

August 13-16: Begin four-day ride to Hatgal, at the southern end of Lake Hovsgol. All camping gear will be transported in support vehicles. Sag wagon will be available for those who opt to give their horses a rest. We will cover 15 miles per day and camp out at night.

August 17-21: Arrive Hatgal. Bid farewell to horses and wranglers. Assemble folding kayaks. Orientation to paddling on Lake Hovsgol. After paddling each day, we will camp ashore (with vehicle support most nights), cook over woodfires and have time to hike as well as fish for salmon, lenok and grayling. We will take advantage of opportunities to visit local herdsmen and families in their gers (yurts), taste local "white food" (milk products) and view wildlife. Spectacular scenery and great fishing!

August 22: Meet vehicle just north of Hatgal, load kayaks and gear in vehicle and begin drive to Moron. Camp en route to Moron.

August 23: Morning flight from Moron to Ulaan Baatar. Afternoon free in UB for shopping and sightseeing.

August 24: Mid-morning flight to Beijing. Transfer to hotel. Farewell Dinner.

August 25: Fly home or stay on in Beijing and China for independent travel. (Boojum can arrange additional travel in both China and Mongolia.)
