It's no question that there is a WONDERFUL city council in D.C. I wonder how much the already-overburdened taxpayers had to put up for that fucking stadium. Dallas, TX also has its share of geniuses, who are working with Ross Perot, Jr. on a new arena deal for their precious Mavericks NBA franchise. I can't do nothing about that since I don't live there (THANK GOD!!!). I'm afraid the disposed vendors shouldn't expect an immediate resolution to their predicament, since nothing moves fast in that town. Instead, they should get together in groups, and get the hell out of there any which way they can. Washington, D.C. is no place to have any kind of small business. They then need to find a state and city that's as easy to work with as you can get...and rent space inside a building! No more weather worries! Space doesn't permit me to discuss all the details of trying to get there businesses going (Some entrepreneurs max out a stack of credit cards to get around the banks, which won't help 'em, and dealing with the SBA, a Government Branch!!!).
As for the rest of the residents and small business owners in D.C. and everywhere else, they need to write their elected officials (Congress, City Council, etc.), and get going on making changes that will benefit their community, state, and country as a whole. This means McDonald's franchise owners, other food service business owners, and street vendors writing letters and attending Council meetings, voicing their concerns, demands, and ideas on coming up with reasonable and less costly codes and licensing procedures that will still address food sanitation concerns and other matters.
Any other street vendors who feel the heat from the "Fat Cats" should immediately take it up with the City Council...and enlist the help of the local news media to get the word out about their situation.
...and everyone who sits on their butt on Election Day needs to MOVE IT!!! Get down to the goddam polls!!! Lack of voter participation, more than anything else, has brought us to this less-than-pleasant situation.
