: Yes, Mike, I can somewhat agree that Mickey needs to change his attitude but I feel he needs to change his attitude and the underlying anger constructively and not by irrationally submitting himself to any corporate employer that comes along. He has his rights (that he may not be completely aware of) and there is a history in US labor that is bloody and a product of this frustration due to the intolerable conditions produced under alienated labor. When I say alienated labor I mean that Mickey and billions of workers worlwide are engaged in labor that they have no real control over and which they will never taste the fruits of their labour. I don't mean munch on a burger at breaktime. : The fastfood industry does not uplift and help the majority of the workers. The corporate managers such as Bengt and Joey Stalin may think so. Andrea (who wants to enlist in RCMP or OPP) may be so conformist that she will stand out as an exception but that doesn't speak for the workers, ex-workers and future workers of the fast food industry who will need an organization for the workers in order to represent them and get their demands met. That has to be done in a DEMOCRATIC UNION and not in guilds posing as unions like the Teamsters.
: Now to managers. No not all of them are bad and I refuse to demonize them. They are under a lot of pressure themselves and I know that. Many of them need union representation and yes,so do cops. So far I haven't really seen any postings to really persuade me (and many others) as to why workers shouldn't unionize.Jen stated that unions were outmoded but when I challenged her and backed up my challenge with evidence she didn't respond. I haven't seen a posting from her since. Your posting is only slightly persuasive and it happens to dovetail nicely with mine (That "D" Word).I look forward to the day when I see a posting here that will persuade me otherwise and not use bad examples of unions such as the AFL-CIO for reference sources. Most of the anti-union people don't understand labor history and it's conveniently deleted or is a marginalized subject in school textbooks throughout the U.S. This serves to fuel ignorance about unions and that is exactly what I'm fighting against.I'm a union organizer and a member of a union that doesn't back down. That's why the workers at McD's and all the other fastfood places should consider the IWW. I'm very serious about this and the struggle for freedom is never over.Don't kid yourself about what I just posted here. When anybody decides to let a minority make decisions for them then there will be a disaster that results in the demise of true democracy. Corporate America has no right to rule mine or anybody elses rights and democracy in the workplace should be an ideal in America.Somehow it isn't but much of the rest of the world knows better.I wonder why.
