The Seductive Power of Capitalism

I find it incredible that any person living in a rich modern capitalist democracy can consider communism (in any of its various guises) a realistic alternative.

Think about it. Who today would forsake the wealth of opportunities that capitalism abounds with? Surely for communism to succeed it requires solidarity throughout the state in which it is to operate. This is precisely why all the attempts to foster a Bolshevik style revolution in mature capitalist economies have failed: the people of such states do not desire to overthrow the system, and make it all 'nicer'. Their lives are surrounded by the fruits of capitalism.
