While you are correct in stating that some people confuse communism/capitalism/democracy/totalitarianism, your explanation is not correct.

The opposite of capitalism is communism - they, along with socialism, are economic systems. Democracy is the opposite of totalitarianism/dictatorship - forms of government. To illustrate, consider if the communist party of Canada won an election. Why they no doubt would move the countries economic system towards communism, they would still be a democratically elected government. Canada would continue to be a democracy provided they didn't take away our right to vote, which would be a totalitarianism regime.

Also consider Cuba. The country is run as a dictatorship as the citizens have no right to remove the leadership. At the same time, the country is moving steadily towards a capitalistic economic system.
