: Bearing in mind what the McSpotlight people were going on about (ie this is becoming an issue of personal opinion and abuse) this seems to be flying close to the wind in that is this really discussing, debating any issues. Perhaps KEVIN is representing a particular viewpoint and so it is his stance being assessed here but it is not fair that it is KEVIN that is being assessed.

: It is too easy too fall into personal attacks - also it is too counterproductive in that it engenders exclusion from debate AND as a result will mean KEVIN will become even further entrenched in his way of thinking rather than open to an alternative as all 'this' becomes merely a tennis match of attacks and rebuttals.

: Bearing in mind that there are folks here who are wanting to debate about the alternatives to capitalism and not the merits of more capitalism we should take a poll and decide if diversionary squabbles have a place in this section of the debating room. To see that those who are defeated in debate take it very badly is evident and it becomes a cycle of insults if no discussion about the polarisation of debate is undertaken.

This is not the only place on the Internet that has had this problem and I don't want to see it drag on without a certain number of points being made. This a medium of communication that has certain characteristics that don't allow one to be shouted down or cut off(as in normal everyday conversation). It's not face to face so we don't know exactly who we're posting to and this is the diminishing characteristic of this form of communication.Nonetheless , a phenomenon I (and others) have noted is the shrillness of the postings from others
on the other end of the political spectrum who are being shown the pitfalls of the notions they espouse and debunked on a continuous basis. It's difficult for them and hopefully they won't personalize it.
If they do then that's too bad.
