: It is you who make it personal when you say things such as "pitfalls of the notions they espouse" and "debunked on a continuous basis".

Is that right? Well for your information I've been on the rightwing of the political spectrum before and inventoried my own beliefs to a considerable extent. So when I say things such as "pitfalls of the notions they espouse" and "debuked on a continuous basis" what I am stating is what I've noted by observation.I and others are also backing up what we post with evidence that is proven.

Those who disagree have not used any URL links for back-up at all.Instead they have personalized rebuttals with emotional responses and that in turn will elicit emotional responses. This turns into a big squabble over what is "truth" and that can start and has started many a flame war. That is not conversation.

Real conversation occurs only when the participants allow the question, the subject matter, to assume primacy. It occurs only when our usual fears about our self-image die: whether that fear is expressed in either arrogance or scrupulosity matters little. That fear dies only because we are carried along, and sometimes away,by the subject matter itself into the rare event or happening called "understanding". Because understanding happens;it occurs not as the pure result of personal achievement but in the back-and-forth of conversation itself.

That may be seen as taking it personally by you but then again you may be taking umbrage at viewpoints that you may have never really investigated yourself. But then again that's speculation isn't it? As Mike Bacon has posted "Debating is a part of human nature". I agree with that even if I don't agree with everything he says.Besides there's a computer in front of me that's just screaming to be utilized. Of course that shouldn't be interpreted literally.

: Quincunx, I have noted shrillness in some of your postings as well.

And likewise in case you may not have looked back on your postings.

And what about all those lovely posters who write such intellectually stimulating remarks like, " McDonald's food tastes like horseshit", or "McDonalds uses cow penises". I think both sides of the political spectrum can be found guilty.

Yes, I can agree. Flush toilets notwithstanding.
