What does Capitalism Really mean?

I don't know the true meaning of Capitalism, but I know this:
Capitalism is freedom of the government, making your own choices and doing what you want!! Socialism sucks because you really aren't free to make self-decisions. You're practically enslaved under the government! If Socialism really is better, than why is it that people under Capitalism, if poor without job, can get a job and move up? When a poor job-less man under Socialism stays that way? If you disagree in any way, please feel free to talk to me.
