God will likely never become irrelevant under any governmental system or ideal simply because no system adequately deals with the afterlife. So far, only religious institutions deal with that. Further, few want to believe there is no afterlife in which they cease to exist.. I dont see religion as an "opium for the people" but simlpy a guide to moral behavior.. which political and economic systems do not necessarily have a vested interest in. ( unless the religion interferes with their particular form of government, as is the case in Communism).
