: : Why is it that people keep their surroundings better when they own them as opposed to given them (Government vs Private Housing)?: Because people think that since it doesnt belong to them that it can always be taken away from them or someone else will fix it if they miss treat it.
: I, as a socialist, am not entirely opposed to private propery but if we could extend the care that people show for their own things to everything in society we wont need to define everything as his, hers or theirs.
I would have a hard time arguing your finally point, and do NOT want to start a debate over "what people are really like" but I believe that you agreed that people dont feel the way. We need realistics solutions for todays world with an eye on the goal. Pie in the sky idealism has gotten us nowhere.
