Day 183 - 03 Nov 95 - Page 06

MS. STEEL: OK. Fine. I do not mind.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: I am not doing this to interrupt you. You
have a statement here which is simple and clear in the
extreme. I think you only risk muddying the water in some
way if you go into further detail.

MR. RAMPTON: Can I say this -- I think it will be obvious to
your Lordship -- assuming your Lordship accepts that
account of the witness as being true ---

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: -- which there is absolutely no reason why your
Lordship should not --- plainly this lady was badly treated
        ---

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MR. RAMPTON: -- by that Manager; it is quite clear.

  MR. JUSTICE BELL: Yes.

MS. STEEL: I have only one question, apart from the hours, can
I just ask the witness to confirm that these are the
documents surrounding her dismissal and complaint that she
made? (To the witness): You see the documents that are in
this bundle, first, there are three payslips. Are they
your payslips, copies of your payslips?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Then there is a form about the circumstances in which you
       were dismissed?
       A. Yes.

  Q. Where you set out your complaint. That is your signature?

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Quite frankly, I would not bother to go into
it, Ms. Steel, otherwise I will start looking in the
documents to see whether there is confirmation of this and
contradiction of that. At the moment, all I have got is a
statement which makes it quite clear.

MS. STEEL: I am not worried because it all tallies anyway.
(To the witness): The final thing, if you look at the last
page, this is a letter from McDonald's dated 30th September
       1985?
       A. That is right.

  Q. "To whom it may concern: Re. Mrs. Sarah Baker.

The above named was employed by McDonald's
Hamburgers Limited as a crew member between 5th
January to 27th May" -- it should be 1985.
"During that time we found her to be honest and
trustworthy, and we know of no reason why she
should not be employed in a similar capacity.

            Yours faithfully, Peter Sullivan,
            Field Personnel Officer".
