  Q. Before that were you the manager of the restaurant in Kings
       Road, Chelsea?
       A. Yes, sir, I was.

  Q. For I think about two years from April 1991 until May 1993?
       A. Yes, sir.

  Q. Before that had you had any experience as a manager of a
       McDonald's restaurant?
       A. Yes, sir. Before that on 22nd November in 1990 I took
over High Street, Kensington, as a restaurant manager, and
before that I was in a warm-up period in Oxford Street, 185
Oxford Street, as a trainee store manager, and while I was
crew member and floor manager I had over six, seven years
of experience before I joined McDonald's Information
       Services.

  Q. I am going to come in a moment to the detail of your
recollection about your time as manager of the Kings Road
restaurant, but before that I want to ask you something
about your experience as a licensee at Barnet?
       A. Yes, sir.

MR. JUSTICE BELL: Licensee and franchisee are the same, are
       they?

MR. RAMPTON: My Lord, yes. McDonald's call them "licensees", I
think that is right, but it is a franchise, is it not?
       A. Yes, it is a franchise.

  Q. Do you as franchisee or licensee run the restaurant
yourself or do you have a manager?
       A. You can do it both ways.

  Q. What do you do?
       A. I run it both ways. When I started off I ran as a
restaurant manager because my management team was not that
experienced apart from a couple of managers. Then
I develop one of my managers to be the restaurant manager
and, basically, I do participate in the running of the
restaurant but my restaurant manager, he runs it.

  Q. What is the annual turnover in money, annual turnover, of
       the Barnet restaurant?
       A. Yes, for up to December last year, 31st December, it
       was £907,000, I believe, 200 something odd.

  Q. In case we should be ignorant, what sort of an area in
       terms of prosperity is Barnet?
       A. Barnet is, if you go towards Hadley or Hadley Road, it
is very posh and very expensive houses there. Otherwise,
if you -- it is a mixture of high class, if that is a
class, lower middle class, middle class. There are lots
and lots of educated people who live in Barnet. So, it is
a very good mixture of all types of people who live there,
but the majority of it is, I think it is the same as Kings
       Road, Chelsea.

  Q. I was going to ask you, a turnover of something over
