    Battle of Dukla Pass

    Saturday July 26, 2008 -- 3:00 p.m.

    C-RS National Cultural Center
915 Dickson Street • Munhall, PA

On Saturday July 26, C-RS Pittsburgh Chapter is pleased to present Bill Tarkulich and his fascinating presentation on the Battle of the Dukla Pass.

The Battle of the Dukla Pass, officially known as the Carpathian Operation, started as a Soviet operation to link up with the Slovak National Uprising to fight the Nazi's and liberate Prešov. The ensuing battle turned into one of the bloodiest battles of the Eastern Front in the entire Second World War, with over 200,000 causalities.

Mr. Tarkulich’s lecture on the battle of the Dukla Pass will cover the actual bloody events of the battle, the impact on the local Rusyn population, and the condition of the battlefield today.

For anyone who has an interest in military history or may have roots in the Dukla Pass or Svidnik region this lecture is a must see.

Admission is free, but donations to the Pittsburgh Chapter of the C-RS are always appreciated.
Light refreshments will be sold and the sales table will be open.

For more information, please email Dean Poloka at or call 412-877-9351.
