C-RS NATIONAL CAPITAL CHAPTER
STUDY GROUP MEETING

November 23, 2003, 1:30-4:00 p.m.
Knights of Columbus Hall, St. Leo's Catholic Church
3702 Old Lee Highway, Fairfax, VA

The National Capital Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society is presenting the first in a series of study groups, Writing Your Family History, and you are cordially invited to attend. Do you find that the limbs on you family tree are rather short? Have you gone back as far as you can and now you want to makes those names into real people by learning about their lives and setting down those wonderful family stories on paper? Or, maybe you haven't started at all, but would like to. Well, now you have the opportunity to do just that. National Capital Chapter member Pat Onufrak will be leading this study group on how to preserve those wonderful stories and start writing the history of your Rusyn family in the United States and Europe.

As editor of the Carpatho-Rusyn Research Center's Carpatho-Rusyn American, Pat wrote a series of articles on genealogy. More recently, she attended an intensive seminar with nationally known genealogist John Philip Colletta on this very topic. Pat will share with us how we can get started on our quest to preserve the story of our families in the United States and Europe. Best of all, to get started, all you need is a pencil and paper because family histories start with you. Pat will help us focus on a plan for writing our family history, as well as techniques for getting starting, including deciding on a format, content, and a strategy for getting more information. Writing your family history really takes no special skills. No one is going to correct your writing. And when you put pencil to paper you will find that you can create a treasured document that your family will value for years to come! So please join us for a no-pressure afternoon of ideas and information that will help you get started Writing Your Family History.
