The Rusyn Experience in Films: Jakub and Ladomirova

on the Rusyn experience. A discussion will follow each film where viewers have the opportunity to make comments and ask questions.


JAKUB

Jakub is a documentary film about Rusyns who lived in the Maramuresh area of northern Romania and were asked by the Czechoslovak government to relocate to the Sudeten area of western Bohemia after World War II. The film was produced over a five year period and completed in 1992.The film focuses of the recollections by members of the community of an unusual character name 'Jakub'. In the process the viewer learns more about the community than Jakub. The film is notable for its beautiful camera work showing aspects of Rusyn life at the time.

MURDER BALLADS AND LEGENDS FROM LADOMIROVA

Ladomirova is a film of eight remembrances of past events occurring in Ladomirova spanning from World War I to the collectivization process after World War II. Ladomirova is a town located in the Svidnik District of northeast Slovakia.  While some memories were joyful others were scarred by the past events which took place in the community.
