You are cordially
invited to attend a program entitled "Rusyns of the Ukraine: A
Struggle for Minority Rights, Then and Now" on Saturday, October 18
at 2PM at the NY Public Library (Mulberry Street Branch) presented
by John Righetti, President of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society. While
Carpatho-Rusyns are recognized as a distinct nationality in the
neighboring countries of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic
and Romania as well as in Serbia and Montenegro, the government of
Ukraine continues to be reluctant acknowledging the existence of
Carpatho-Rusyns as a distinct national minority living within its
borders. This human rights issue is particularly important as
Ukraine prepares to apply for membership in the European Union and
NATO and it has implications for Rusyns worldwide. John Righetti
will guide the audience through the issues, institutions, people,
and the difficulties of this complex environment.
Free Admission Open to
the Public Refreshments will be served
