C-RS METRO NEW JERSEY/NEW YORK CHAPTER

East Side, West Side: A Day Visiting Ole Rusyn New York

The Metro New Jersey/New York Chapter of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society invites all to a tour of the old Rusyn New York community on Saturday, September 20, 2003.

The tour begins with a visit to the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. The Museum's 1863 tenement building is the first tenement to be designated a National Historical Landmark and will provide the visitor a perspective of the immigrant experience on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Rusyn gateway to America. The tour continues onto St. Nicholas Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, a Rusyn landmark on the East Side, where a buffet lunch of an all homemade Rusyn cuisine will refresh and delight the visitors. A presentation of the old Rusyn community will be made by the Church historian. A visit to the church and remembrance prayer led by the pastor completes the day.
