The New Jersey Chapter
will host a luncheon of ethnic foods and present its “Golden
Valashka” award posthumously to its former president, John
Mihalasky. Accepting the award on his behalf will be his
daughter, Susyn Mihalasky, who will speak about her
father. Also speaking will be John Righetti who will
give a presentation on the Carpatho-Rusyn Cultural Center. He
will also discuss the establishment of the “John Mihalasky
Memorial Fund” that will benefit the Center. Immediately
following these addresses, there will be a performance by
Vychodna Dolina. This singing group is comprised
of ten women, who are parishioners of St. Nicholas of Myra
Church of Tenth Street, New York City. The women perform in the
native costumes of several villages in Slovakia. Tom Peters
also will be present with his extraordinary genealogy display.
In addition, there will be a raffle and a 50/50 as
well as Rusyn items available for sale.
Directions: From I-80
(Exit 61), the Garden State Parkway (Exit 157) and Route 46,
follow signs for County Road 507 – River Drive to
Garfield. After driving approximately two miles on River
Drive, at the third traffic light turn right onto Monroe
Street crossing the Passaic River. The Cathedral will be
visible ahead. Turn right onto Fourth Street to access the
Cathedral parking lot.
