“Michael Strank and Other Heroes of Our Family”

Saturday, September 19, 2009, 2 – 4 PM

Wayne Public Library, 461 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ

Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.

Michael Strank, one of two Marines who died while raising the flag on Iwo Jima, an image that was captured in an iconic photograph, will be one of the subjects of a presentation given by New Jersey Chapter member, Carole Kasenchak.  Lesser known, but equally heroic, was Michael Smollen who survived World War II and played a key role during the Cold War. Learn about the lives of these men and other members of Ms. Kasenchak’s family, their different roles on the world stage and their shared cultural characteristics.

Ms. Kasenchak, known professionally as Carole Ayn Kathie, has worked for close to forty years to unravel the mystery of her family. Learn how the Iwo Jima flag raising impacted the Strank family during World War II,

the Cold War and to this day. For further information send an e-mail to njpres@c-rs.org or call (973) 540-0871.

Directions: Take Route 46 to the Riverview Drive Exit in the direction of Wayne. Continue on Riverview Drive to the traffic light at Valley Road.
