“The Lattimer Mine Massacre: An Ancestral Story from a Modern Viewpoint”

Saturday, September 20, 2008, 2 – 4 PM

Wayne Public Library

In 1897, a large number of our ancestral cousins, being led by the more western Europeans among them including “Big Mary” Septak, went on strike and marched unarmed to their workplaces demanding fair treatment from obstinate mine owners. By the end of the day, nineteen were shot dead or were mortally wounded. In 1898, there was a trial. There were racial issues.   C-RS member Dan Bavolack, who was born and grew up in the area, will speak and present pictures and a few maps, assembled with the help of C-RS member, Jim Huratiak.

Refreshments will be served.
