Please join us as the New Jersey Chapter hosts a luncheon of ethnic foods and presents the Chapter’s “Golden Valashka Award” that honors an individual who has made a significant contribution to Rusyn culture. This year the award will be presented to Richard D. Custer, Editor of The New Rusyn Times, the principle publication of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society. After receiving the award, Mr. Custer will discuss the Rusyn settlement of New Jersey and his presentation will be visually enhanced with slides. In addition his collection of materials related to his topic will be on display. Immediately following his address, Vychodna Dolina, a singing group from St. Nicholas Church of Tenth Street, New York City will perform “The Life of a Rusyn Child” in song and dance with narration in Rusyn and English. Many of the singers are natives of Spis County, Slovakia and perform in their native costumes. Tom and Kathryn Peters will also be present with their extraordinary genealogy display. There will be a raffle and a 50/50 as well as Rusyn books and items available for sale.
