WIN Setup 1.20
WIN Setup is an alternate install program for Microsoft Windows 3.1.
This setup program, however, will run in a VDM, which allows end users
to install Windows on HPFS drives (for use with OS/2 for Windows versions
of OS/2). Note that the Windows produced on your hard drive is NOT a
suitable installation for use under DOS.
Instructions
------------
Run WINSETUP.EXE and follow its prompts
Run OS/2's Selective Install to have OS/2 convert your Windows setup to
Win-OS/2
Reboot and install any necessary printer/video/networking drivers via
the SETUP.EXE program in your windows directory
Limitations
-----------
WinSETUP was created and tested with Windows 3.10 3.5" diskettes. It
will work with 5.25" disks - just the prompts for disks will be wrong.
WinSETUP does not create any groups in your program manager. I hope to
overcome that limitation in the near future.
WinSETUP offers no choices in installation type. I will allow selective
installation of games and utilities once I've figured out how to make
groups. Maybe someday I will allow choices such as mouse driver, country,
etc... but it is a low priority because those things can be changed after
the installation using SETUP.EXE (see below).
Special considerations
----------------------
If you need to install a different mouse driver or video driver you can
run the SETUP.EXE that is created in your Windows directory from a VDM.
An example of this is if you have an XGA system and use WinSETUP, you will
have to use SETUP.EXE to install the XGA drivers after you've selectively
installed Win-OS/2 support.
