The first two parameters are a coordinate pair giving the position at which the text should start. For subsequent lines of text the coordinates can be omitted in which case the line is positioned below the previous line. The third parameter is the actual text to be printed. There is also an optional fourth parameter which allows the text to be centered on the coordinates or end at the coordinates. Specialized text labels are also generated using the label (); and ticklabel( ); commands and the following discussion applies to them as well.
