LOGSIZE NOTES
Let me first begin by thanking Dan Parsons for one of the best communica-
tions programs I have seen in recent years. I know I never could have
downloaded so many files or so much mail with other communications soft-
ware. All I ever used to do was sit and wait for the busy signals to end.
Now, I'd be surprised if I did any BBSing before 1am. The old PC just sits
and waits for the clock to strike 1, (which it does a heck of a lot more
patiently then I ever could), then dials all my regular BBSs to collect
mail and my needed downloads while I'm off in some blissful snooze.
Hats off to you Dan!
I have seen requests over the last several months for a utility that would
help maintain the size of the Robocomm Log File. Well, here it is!
This BETA version begins the development of a utility which will not only
maintain the actual log file size in bytes, but will also give you the
ability to keep the last X days of information in the log.
Together, these options will help you get a grip on the runaway log file
size.
Please note that this is a BETA version and while I have tested it quite
extensively on my machine there is always the possibility of a bug lurking
in the shadows which the can of Raid hasn't quite reached yet. Fortunately,
any bugs that do occur should not have a drastic effect on anything but the
Robocomm Log File itself. NO OTHER ROBOCOMM FILES ARE EVER TOUCHED.
This version has only the file size feature enabled. The date routines are
being worked on at this typing. (Hey! Multitasking!) The delay in the date
routines is due to the consideration of a new feature which would allow the
dissection of the log file for archive purposes. For example, at the end of
each month I like to rename my log file to the month and year. I can then
do analysis (hey, another utility in the works) on it at a later date. I
recently needed to do some long distance analysis for a new vendor LD plan
and wanted to see exactly what kind of calling patterns I had.
Currently, registration for LOGSIZE is $15.00 or $25.00 depending on wheth-
er you wish to receive the latest version on disk when registering.
But, for a limited time, I'll make you a deal! Until TAX DAY 1993, (that's
April 15th for those of you who don't pay taxes), LOGSIZE can be registered
for $15.00 and I will send you the lastest version on the diskette size of
your choice. Just write "TAX DAY SPECIAL" on the registration form which
can be found in the file REGISTER.FRM.

INSTALLATION
Okay, here is the tough part. The installation. Copy the LOGSIZE program to
your Robocomm directory. That's all there is to it!
If you wish to have the LOGSIZE program executed everytime you run Robo-
comm, put LOGSIZE in the batch file you use to execute Robocomm.
EXECUTION
LOGSIZE can be run from any batch file (mine is in the one that starts
Robocomm) or the command line. Currently there is only one command line
parameter.
The -Snnn command line parameter tells LOGSIZE how large your Robocomm log
file should be in 32K increments. You use the S parameter as follows:
LOGSIZE -S10
This tells LOGSIZE to set the log file size to 10 32K blocks or 320k.
That's all there is to it!
If you have any questions, problems or suggestions, please drop me a line
and keep an eye out for the next version!
