OCR: EDMOND HALLEY EDMOND HALLEY was an English scientist who is popularly remembered for his work on comets. As a young man he studied planetary orbits, and this work led him to look at the orbits of 24 comets. Three in particular attracted his attention. Using the new theories laid down by Isaac Newton (1643-1727), he predicted that the comets seen in 1531, 1607, and 1682 were in fact the same one, and that it would return again to become visible from the Earth in 1758. It did, and the comet was duly named Halley's Comet in his honor. (1656-1742) A-Z SEE LIFE NEXT ALSO STORY
