He was a titan, brother of Atlas. He created the first man from the mud against the will of Zeus. He stole fire from the gods and gave it to the human beings. He was considered the inventor of navigation, medicine and science. For having fooled Zeus he was chained to the summit of Caucasus where a vulture ate his liver which regrew during the night. From this punishment he was rescued by Heracles.
