  8.     The WHATSNEW.TXT file, provides information conerning the current release. 
  9.     It is always beneficial to review that file before installation as well.

  14.     ChessMAGIC! is distributed in .ZIP format. Use PKUNZIP to extract
  15.     the files. First create the directory where ChessMAGIC! is to reside,
  16.     then use PKUNZIP to extract the files.  Always overwrite files if
  17.     upgrading from a previous version.
  18.  
  19.     If you're installing ChessMAGIC! for the first time, follow the
  20.     instructions in the CMAGIC.DOC file for running LOCAL.BAT. You
  21.     need to run ChessMAGIC!, to initialize the files, before running
  22.     CMEdit. CMEdit WILL NOT create/initialize the databases. 
  23.     
  24.     NEW!       You'll need to re-register ChessMAGIC! using the registration
  25.                facility in CMEdit. If you don't have CMEdit, you'll need
  26.                to get it. It replaces CMSys. DO NOT use "cmagic register"
  27.                to register this version.

  29.                The accompanying cmate.exe file, is the computer play
  30.                module. See the sample.bat file for installing it in
  31.                your door BAT file that calls ChessMAGIC!. ChessMAGIC!
  32.                returns an errorlevel that initiates cmate.
  33.  
  34.    UPGRADE!    An upgrade is required and can be accomplished using the
  35.                built in feature in CMEdit. If you're running a version
  36.                prior to 2.01, please follow the instructions in the
  37.                section Conversion Notification, later in this document.

  39.     Multi-Node Considerations
  40.               
  41.                If you're running ChessMAGIC! with graphics turned on,
  42.                please change the attributes to the *.bgi, *.chr and
  43.                *.fnt files to Read Only.  An error could be encountered
  44.                with a message of "BGI Error".
  45.  
  46.     FOSSIL     If you experience problems using the ChessMAGIC! FOSSIL
  47.                configuration, try removing it. In most cases, the FOSSIL
  48.                configuration is not necessary.

  53.     ChessMAGIC! is distributed as CMAGInnn.ZIP (where nnn = version number). 
  54.     There is no longer a separate archive for the graphics version. Both
  55.     are combined as single executable in the above archive.

  57.     CMEdit and Cmate are now included in the ChessMAGIC! distibution 
  58.     archive. CMEdit also requires a run time library in association 
  59.     with the above archive. Because of the libraries size, they are 
  60.     distributed in separate archives. There are two run time libraries, 
  61.     one for running in conventional memory (confined to 640k) and another 
  62.     that will utilize EMS memory. Once you have a library, there is no need
  63.     to download them on an updated version of CMEdit. The run time 
  64.     libraries are distributed as CMEDLIBC.ZIP (conventional memory) and
  65.     CMEDLIBE.ZIP (EMS memory). CMEdit will not run without 1 of the 
  66.     libraries. If you can't find the libraries locally, they can obtained
  67.     on IntelliLink BBS.

  73.       CMEdit    ChessMAGIC! System Editor/Database Manager.

  75.       CMCom     ChessMAGIC! Remote Graphical Interface. Permits the remote
  76.                 users to have a graphical interface to ChessMAGIC!. Requires
  77.                 a minimum of EGA, mouse support. Available now.

  79.       CMReader  ChessMAGIC! Graphical offline game reader. Reads short
  80.                 of long algebraic from text files.  Available now.

  82.       CMFont    Customize the board and piece colors to either CMReader,
  83.                 CMCom or ChessMAGIC! graphics. Available now.

  85.       CMStats   Produces bulletins for your BBS and can be run as an event.
  86.                 Creates a win/loss/draw stats for each game area and also
  87.                 creates a bulletin showing games to be joined in each
  88.                 game area.

  93.     Anyone using a version prior to version 2.01, will be required to run
  94.     GAMECHG.EXE before installing and running a new version. The game files
  95.     *.mve are not compatible with this version and will not be recognized.
  96.     The afore mentioned program will convert the game files. If this program
  97.     is not found in this archive, it may be obtained from IntelliLink BBS.
  98.     It is found in file area 1 as CONVERTG.EXE (self-extracting archive).

  104.     Turn OFF your line wrap toggle.  When ON, Qmodem users have told us
  105.     about trouble with wrapping.  This doesn't happen with other
  106.     communications programs (i.e. Telix, Procomm,Commo, Lync, etc.).
  107.     ChessMAGIC! is displaying board column numbers at row 80.

  110.     If running under Desqview, make certain that "manage printer contention"
  111.     is set to NO.  Gary Berg discovered the share violations on his LANtastic
  112.     system (The Rec Room) were caused by having this set to YES.

  115.     Make sure that the SHARE.EXE is between REDIR and the SERVER commands.
  116.     Also change the accompanying .EXE files to READ-ONLY.
