The items in this picture, which come from the Hudson's Bay Company's collection, illustrate the basic economic exchange of the fur trade. The Indians traded their furs (fox and ermine skins are shown here) for a wide variety of goods such as a gun, copper kettle, three pound roll of carrot tobacco, knives and other metal implements. The display is set on a Hudson's Bay Company point blanket, another important item of trade.
