In only forty years, Winnipeg had grown from a small fur trading post of a few hundred people to a sprawling metropolis of over 150,000. The physical expansion that accompanied this growth in population is shown in these views of Winnipeg. It is obvious that Winnipeg's title, "Metropolis of the West" was justified, for it was by 1913 firmly established as that region's banking, jobbing, shipping, and industrial headquarters.
