No, not even this one! I tried the tiral version, and ran WINTUNE. Here are
my results:
My system is a 486DX2-66, with 16MB ram and a Connor 420MB hard drive. Drive
C and Drive G are compressed (Drivespace) drives; Drive H is the uncompressed
drive. The default directories in VRAMDIR were left as-is.
The results from WINTUNE 95:
Without VRAMDIR With VRAMDIR
Dhrystone 59 MIPS 60 MIPS
Whetstone 15 MFLOPS 15 MFLOPS
C:\Cached speed 5.2 MB/s 5.1 MB/s
C:\Uncached speed 0.76 MB/s 0.78 MB/s

G:\Uncached speed 0.75 MB/s 0.76 MB/s
H:\Cached speed 5.5 MB/s 5.4 MB/s

this product!

During your testing, VRAMDIR is not used at all by Wintune.
Please read the benchmark section in the readme file for details about
how to benchmark VRAMDIR.
For Wintune to use VRAMDIR, you need to map a root directory into
VRAMDIR, e.g., H:\, or G:\, or C:\, choose one drive that has the
least number of files on it.
After Windows restarts, don't run anything else, just Wintune. After
Wintune finishes, remove the root mapping in VRAMDIR (e.g., H:\), and
restart Windows immediately. Don't run anything else before you remove
the mapping and restart Windows.
Now, you can see that H:\ is handled by VRAMDIR and its Uncached speed
on your system should be higher than 5.5MB/s. (a jump from the current
1MB/s).

I tried this and every thing seemed to be ok, no real noticeable speed
improvements, did not run wintune only sys monitor. I am using an IBM

went into the control panel and then to the add/remove programs. When
I tried to install some progs from the windows setup tab using the
have disk button, everything crashed!!!!! I then got the message
saying that it was due to VRAMDIR!!!!!!!!!!!! Tried this a couple of
times with the same results and then removed VRAMDIR off my

I only used the trial 30 minute version, so I do not know if it is in
the full version, However, I am not going to pay them even 50 cents to
find out!

I tried this and every thing seemed to be ok, no real noticeable speed
improvements, did not run wintune only sys monitor. I am using an IBM
Aptiva 120Mhz with 24MB ram. The one problem I did have, was when I
went into the control panel and then to the add/remove programs. When
I tried to install some progs from the windows setup tab using the
have disk button, everything crashed!!!!! I then got the message
saying that it was due to VRAMDIR!!!!!!!!!!!! Tried this a couple of
times with the same results and then removed VRAMDIR off my
system---NO MORE PROBLEMS NOW!
I only used the trial 30 minute version, so I do not know if it is in
the full version, However, I am not going to pay them even 50 cents to
find out!

As we explained to you, because WinStone puts too much emphasis on
video, it is not suitable to use it to test VRAMDIR, which speeds up
the hard-disk subsystem, typically the temporary file operations.
For example, the results of the benchmarks on a Gateway 2000 Pentium
100:
MDB 16MB file:
Hard-disk: 1.4 MB/s
RAMDRIVE: 9.0 MB/s
VRAMDIR: 35.0 MB/s
WinBench Disk WinMark:
VCACHE: 0.7 MB/s
VRAMDIR: 1.5 MB/s
These harddisk benchmark programs are downloadable from the net and
everybody can test those with VRAMDIR. We are sure that everyone will
get results similar to ours. Specifically, WinBench is also from PC
Magazine, and it is designed to test sub-system performance.
You can not ignore these benchmark results. Can you think of any other
program that can provide this much speed enhancement indicated by
these results?

In this test, Wintune did not use RAMDRIVE nor VRAMDIR. The speed you
quoted are caused by other differences between the two runs of
Wintune.
If you want to test RAMDRIVE speed, you need to use MDB instead of
Wintune, since Wintune only tests harddrive speed, not RAMDRIVE.
To test VRAMDIR with Wintune or MDB, you need to map a root directory
into VRAMDIR, e.g., D:\. Select a drive with the least number of files
on it. Restart Windows. Then run Wintune or MDB only, do not run
anything else. After you finish benchmarking, remove the D:\ mapping
in VRAMDIR, and then restart Windows immediately, do not run anything
else before Windows restarts.
You will get the results similar to ours:
Hard-disk: 1.4 MB/s
RAMDRIVE: 9.0 MB/s
VRAMDIR: 35.0 MB/s

Maybe during the test the application you tried did not use VRAMDIR
enough. We suggest you keep VRAMDIR on your system for several days
and every time before you shutdown or restart Windows, look up the
VRAMDIR performance statistics in System Monitor, to see if the number
of bytes and number of operations handled by VRAMDIR is large enough
to worth $10.

We are sorry if our documentation is not clear enough.
We got very positive benchmark results.
For example, the results of the benchmarks on a Gateway 2000 Pentium
100:
MDB 16MB file:
Hard-disk: 1.4 MB/s
RAMDRIVE: 9.0 MB/s
VRAMDIR: 35.0 MB/s
WinBench Disk WinMark:
VCACHE: 0.7 MB/s
VRAMDIR: 1.5 MB/s
These benchmark programs are downloadable on the net. Everybody can
try those with VRAMDIR on their own system. We are certain that
everyone will get the results similar to ours.
It is true that in real life how much VRAMDIR can help depends on the
applications you use. Many users have reported very positive results
with VRAMDIR. You can visit our WWW site for some user feedbacks.
Many applications create temporary files, which can be helped by
VRAMDIR. It is possible that during the short period when users tried
VRAMDIR, the operations didn't use VRAMDIR enough to show much
difference. But those short tests may not represent the true real life
usage pattern. So we recommend users to keep VRAMDIR in the system for
several days, and every time before shutdown or restart Windows, take
a look at the VRAMDIR performace statistics in System Monitor, and see
if the operations performed (thus saved) by VRAMDIR is large enough to
worth $10.
>If you want real system improvements, buy more RAM. It's cheap enough
>now.
VRAMDIR puts RAM into more efficient use. It works well with 8MB, as
well as 32MB.
