KP5 shareware distribution kit 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations on your good taste in DOS keypunch emulators! This text
file explains how to unpack and install the KP5 shareware package.
The shareware distribution kit consists of (1) this 'read.me' file, (2) an
installation program (INSTALL.EXE), and (3) six self-extracting 'modules'
(KP5PAKA.EXE through KP5PAKF.EXE).
Presumably, you have either downloaded and unzipped the distribution kit
from a bulletin board or CompuServe, or have received it on a diskette from
a shareware vendor.
You use the INSTALL program to unpack and install the KP5 modules. In cases
where disk space is tight (for example, installing onto a 360K diskette),
the INSTALL program will allow you to unpack just those modules you need.
You may unpack KP5 modules all onto one disk, or onto several diskettes.
You will need 300K free disk(ette) space to install the basic system;
630K free space for all modules.

HOW TO UNPACK AND INSTALL
The way to run INSTALL is as follows:
[drive1:][path1]INSTALL [drive2:][path2] [-s] [?]
Sorry, I couldn't resist a little DOS manual-like syntax. The first
incomprehensible construct ([drive1:][path1]) refers to the drive and
directory in which the INSTALL program, and the rest of the distribution
kit, is located. The command-line argument [drive2:][path2] refers to the
drive and directory in which you would like KP5 installed. The directory
does not have to have been created prior to running INSTALL. You may omit
this option, or you may change your mind while INSTALL is running. The -s
option is used to compensate for 'snow' on CGA displays; if you're not sure
what kind of display you've got, try INSTALL without the -s option first.
The ? option will generate a 'help' screen describing INSTALL's syntax.
Examples:
(1) Distribution kit is in a diskette in drive A:, you want to install
KP5 to hard drive C:
a:install c:
(2) Distribution kit has been unzipped to the current hard drive
directory, and you want to install KP5 to the same drive...
install
(3) Distribution kit has been unzipped to the current hard drive
directory, and you want to install KP5 to a public directory
on a network drive...
install z:\public

THE KP5 MODULES
In case the INSTALL program is missing or demonically possessed, the KP5
modules may be unpacked simply by executing them as programs. For example,
if you issue the command KP5PAKA, the basic system will be unpacked into
the current directory.
The contents of the five modules are as follows:
KP5PAKA.EXE KP5 program 300K
KP5PAKB.EXE Small help file 30K
KP5PAKC.EXE Large help file 66K
KP5PAKD.EXE Documents 104K
KP5PAKE.EXE Utilities 46K
KP5PAKF.EXE Sample file 90K

REQUIRED READING
You can learn a lot about KP5 by just running it, as the small and large
HELP files provide an online User's Guide. In fact, the text file KP5.DOC
found in the DOCUMENTS module is a printable version of the large help
file, generated by the KP5 help system.
However, you should take a look at the text file README.DOC, also located
in the Documents module. This file explains the basic features of KP5,
offers tips on how to maximize its performance, and shows how to install
KP5 in Windows 3.

Remember that shareware is not free. If you decide to use KP5, you must
register it according to the instructions in the REGISTER.DOC text file.
If that file is missing, contact me through postal or electronic mail. If
you register KP5, you will receive a printed, typeset-quality manual, have
access to unlimited technical support, and will recieve all future upgrades
for just the cost of shipping & handling.
The KP5 shareware package follows the guidelines advocated by the
Associaton of Shareware Professionals (ASP), of which I am an
author-member. It is fully functional and not 'crippled' in any way.
You should read the following ASP Ombudsman's statement. It explains what
ASP can do for you if you have trouble resolving any problems regarding
shareware marketed by an ASP author-member.
ASP Ombudsman's statement:
"This program is produced by a member of the Association of Shareware
Professionals (ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the shareware
principle works for you. If you are unable to resolve a
shareware-related problem with an ASP member by contacting the member
directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman can help you
resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but does not provide
technical support for members' products. Please write to the ASP
Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI 49442 or send a CompuServe

Thanks for giving KP5 a try! I look forward to hearing from you.
