  1. Booklet v3.42
  2. -------------

  4. 'Booklet' is a program to print documents in landscape orientation using both
  5. sides of the paper. It can print on HP Laserjet II and Epson 9 or 24 pin
  6. dot-matrix printers, or any printer which is compatible with them. It prints
  7. on A4 or US Letter (11" x 8.5") paper. When the output is folded down the
  8. middle it becomes an A5 (or 8.5" x 5.5") booklet.

  10. You can use it to print its own documentation. Just type 'booklet booklet.doc'.
  11. If you are using a dot-matrix Epson compatible, select 'Printer/Epson 9 pin'
  12. or 'Printer/Epson 24 pin' from the menu. If you are using a Laserjet II or
  13. compatible, select 'Printer/HP Laserjet'. If you are using an HP Deskjet,
  14. select 'Printer/HP Deskjet'.

  16. If you are using LPT2 rather than LPT1, select 'Printer/LPT2'. Leave ALL other
  17. options unchanged. The documentation is formatted for 55 lines, 80 columns and
  18. uses the IBM-PC symbol set.

  20. Then just choose 'File/Print' and follow the instructions.

  22. Upgrading from v3.00 or 3.10
  23. ----------------------------
  24. Note that some key changes have been made in the custom layout screen. In
  25. particular, the functions associated with the cursor keys and the Ctl cursor
  26. keys have been exchanged, and the ESC key now quits WITHOUT making changes.
  27. Several menu options have been combined to reduce the size of the menus, and
  28. the status of the options is shown on the menu itself.

  30. Upgrading from v2.40 or earlier
  31. -------------------------------
  32. The configuration file for v3.42 is only partly compatible with previous
  33. versions. If BOOKLET.CFG is present in the same directory as BOOKLET.EXE you
  34. will get an warning message when you start. 'Booklet' is able to extract
  35. the registration information from the old file. All you need to do is set the
  36. options you require and re-save the configuration. The old file will be over-
  37. written.

  39. Upgrading from v2.12 or earlier
  40. -------------------------------
  41. If you have a configuration file BOOKLET.CFG in the same directory as
  42. BOOKLET.EXE, delete it before running this version. If present it will
  43. (probably) cause a load error. You can save a new file once you have
  44. entered the program. If you have registered the program you will need to
  45. re-enter your registration code using the 'Config/Register booklet' menu
  46. option. Note that any '0' or '1' in the code is a number, not the
  47. letters 'O' or 'l'.

  49. HP Deskjet 500 printers
  50. -----------------------
  51. This comes up often enough to make it worth mentioning here. If you experience
  52. problems with offset output on A4 paper check the paper size switches on the
  53. back of the printer against the values in the printer manual. Refer to the
  54. 'booklet' manual for more details.

  56. If you still experience minor alignment problems with any Deskjet printer,
  57. please inform Softronix of the nature of the problem and the exact model in
  58. use.

  175.                   used whatever symbol set had been selected as the default.
  176.                   The most noticeable effect was IBM graphics appearing as
  177.                   accented characters.

  179. 1.6   19/10/90 1) Set up printer again before second pass. When the program
  180.                   uses a printer on a network it seems the network software
  181.                   treats the second side as a separate job, and resets the
  182.                   printer between passes. NOT TESTED BY ME as I don't have
  183.                   access to a network.
