  72.           1  What's STrip?

  75.           STrip  is  the  first  terminal  program  for the Atari ST which
  76.           supports the Remote-Imaging-Protocol (RIP).
  77.  
  78.           RIP  has  been developed by TeleGraphics, a USA Company and is a
  79.           7-bit  ASCII transfer protocol for color graphics, mouse control
  80.           and more.
  81.  
  82.           RIP  requires  a  graphics  resolution of 640 * 350 pixels in 16
  83.           colors,  which  is  provided  by  an  IBM compatible PC with EGA
  84.           compatible graphics card.
  85.  
  86.           The  monochrome  mode  of  the  Atari  ST  offers an appropriate
  87.           resolution(640  *  400  pixels min.) but only two colors, namely
  88.           black and white.
  89.  
  90.           This  means  that a 100% implementation of RIP isn't possible on
  91.           the  ST  because  the  necessary  hardware  requirements are not
  92.           available.

  94.           From  the  software  developer's point of view, this lack is the
  95.           special  challenge  of  implementing RIP on the ST: To represent
  96.           RIP codes as good as possible on a black-and-white plane.

  98.           Those who have dealt with this problems a little bit closer will
  99.           have  recognized  that this isn't an easy task and should not be
  100.           underestimated.

  102.           With "STrip" I have developed an application which achieves very
  103.           good  results  on  this  matter.  But  because  of the technical
  104.           reasons  cited  above it can't come up to the standard of a real
  105.           color implementation.

  107.           To  date,  this version of STrip v0.95 supports appr. 90% of all
  108.           RIP functions.

  110.           Of  course,  STrip  will  be expanded further and adapted to the
  111.           developing standard.

  122.           2  Hardware requirements

  125.           STrip  has  been  designed  for the monochrome resolution of the
  126.           Atari ST (640*400 pixels).
  127.  
  128.           A higher monochrome resolution could not be tested but should be
  129.           possible.

  131.           Color  graphics cards or the two color modes of the Atari ST are
  132.           currently not supported.

  151.           of charge, but only in its original and unmodified form.

  160.           Registered users will get full access to all functions of STrip,
  161.           free  updates  (excluding postage and disks), the ZMODEM modules
  162.           for  up- and downloads, an icon converter which will convert the
  163.           original  RIP  icons  (16  colors,  *.ICN)  to STrip icons (b/w,
  164.           *.SIC) and all available icons.

  195.           There is no special installation of STrip necessary.
  196.  
  197.           The  archive  should have been extracted with all subdirectories
  198.           in  order  to  find  all  icon files (*.SIC) in the subdirectory
  199.           "ICONS". Alternatively, you may create a subdirectory "ICONS" on
  200.           your own and move all icon files to this directory.

  214.           The  file  DIAL095.LST contains a directory of BBS phone numbers
  215.           which can be dialled from within STrip using the Dial function.

  217.           Each line consists of an entry of the following format:
