<p><font size="5"><b><i>General Rule</i></b></font></p>
<p><font size="3">There are two conditions or
"states" of Supply</font></p>
<ul>
<li><font size="3">Supplied</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Unsupplied</font></li>
</ul>
<p><font size="3">The Supply States of units are determined
through the ability to trace a supply path through the
hexagons to a Supply Source. The Supply State of a unit
affects that unit's Movement, ZOC, and Combat abilities.
Furthermore, Unsupplied units may suffer step losses from
Supply Attrition.</font></p>
<p><font size="3">The following sections describe how Supply
State is determined, but the game mechanism does it for you.
So, these explanations are to help you avoid putting your
units in an Unsupplied State, or at least help you know when
you are doing it.</font></p>
<p><font size="5"><b><i>Supply Phase</i></b></font></p>
<p><font size="3">The Supply State of units of all units
(either Friendly or Enemy) is determined during the Supply
Phase (happens at the start of every Player-Turn), and
applies through the rest of that Player-Turn. Supply State of
units is shown on the unit counter, and reported as well in
the dedicated info panel.</font></p>
<p><font size="5"><b><i>Being In Supply</i></b></font></p>
<p><font size="3">To be in Supply, a unit must be able to
trace a line of contiguous hexes, free of Enemy units and
Enemy ZOC (except if Friendly units also occupy that hex) to
a road or a rail line that is also free of Enemy units and
Enemy ZOC (except if Friendly units also occupy that hex)
along all the entire portion of the route over which supply
is being traced and thence to a Supply Source. The distance
from the unit to the road / rail line can not be farther than
one Movement Phase.</font></p>
<p><font size="3">The road / rail portion of the supply line
can not be traced through Enemy controlled hexes.</font></p>
<p><font size="3">A line of supply can not be traced by a
unit through terrain that it could not enter via normal
movement. For example, an armored unit could not trace a
supply line through Mountain hexes, except through connected
road / rail hexes.</font></p>
<p><font size="5"><b><i>Unsupply Effects</i></b></font></p>
<ul>
<li><font size="3">Unsupplied units are subject to
attrition (see below)</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Unsupplied Infantry units have one
movement point less.</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Unsupplied Armored units have their
movement points halved.</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Unsupplied Infantry units have their
attack factors halved.</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Unsupplied Armored units have their
attack factors quartered, and their defense factors
halved.</font></li>
<li><font size="3">Unsupplied units may not use move at
all during Rail and Naval Phases.</font></li>
</ul>
<p><font size="5"><b><i>Supply Sources</i></b></font></p>
<p><font size="3">The Commonwealth player has only one Supply
Source: Singapore. Commonwealth supply lines cannot be traced
to Friendly units by sea.</font></p>
<p><font size="3">Japanese units can trace supply lines to
hex 0201 (north edge of the map), to any East coast port
currently under Japanese control, or (if the Penang shipping
has been captured intact) to any West coast port.</font></p>
</blockquote>
<blockquote>
<p><font size="5"><b><i>Attrition</i></b></font></p>
<p><font size="3">Unsupplied units are subject to attrition,
they may lose one step. Attrition losses are a result of the
severe conditions in the Malacca Peninsula.</font></p>
<p><font size="3">Each Unsupplied unit may lose one step at
the end of the Supply Phase. The step loss has a basic 30%
chance to occur; 20% more chance if the unit occupies a
Jungle hex, 30% more chance if the unit occupies a Mountain
hex, 10% less chance if the unit occupies a Cultivated or
City hex.</font></p>
<p><font size="3">Attrition step losses counts for Victory
Points purposes.</font></p>
