GreatFoodaftertheHobbyComputerClubDays1988,ontheeveningof
Saturday,November26th,1988.Andthestoryofwhattheyfoundtogether
withthatFood.
ÇTheHCCdays1988werequiteinterestingbutnotinterestingenoughnot
tobedull.Althoughtheymadeanattempttofinditinterestingquite
seriously,theycouldnotsucceedinfindingitanythingelseratherthan
dull.Sorry,folks.Ifyou'relookingforanessayofthequalityofthe
offeredproductsand/orserviceshere,somedisappointmentisboundto
hityou.Ifyou'renot,itwon't.
Sotheythrewalltheirinterest(plentyofit)uponacertain
waitressinacertainRestaurantintheadjacenttowncentre.Thiswasin
factprettysimple:Asfatewouldhaveit,Sheturnedouttobequite
Çbrainnumbinglybrilliant.
No.Don'tworry.ThisisnotgoingtobeoneofthoseDouglasAdamsish
articles!
Forsomehoursnow,butonenamelingeredsimultaneouslythroughtheir
minds;anamethatsoundedlikeairbrushingthroughtheleavesofsilent
treesonanautumnafternoon,anamethatembodiedeverythingLovestands
for,anamethatinfactturnedouttobebaseduponanancient
language'stranslationfor"Iloveyou".
ThisisHerstory.AstoryofLove,Food,SweatyHands,Deafening
Cries,VeryRedFaces,PoundingHeartsandaRedRose.
Itstartshere.
AftertheHCCdays,theydecidedtheyhadtovisitaGreekrestaurant
called"ZorbatheGreek"thattheSTRIKE-a-LIGHTcrewhadhonouredwitha
visitonedayearlier.FrankandTako-Janhadtalkedaboutsomegorgeous
waitressthewholeday,andtheyconsideredthatreasonenoughtofavour
avisittothatrestaurantaboveonetothelocaljunk-foodcentre(where
theywouldprobablymerelyhavestuffedthemselveswithfatteningpieces
ofrectangularfriedpotatowithlotsofevenmorefatteningmayoonit).
Ç Astheyenteredtherestaurantandtheirthunderstruckeyesfellon
thegirlwaitinguponthem,itsuddenlyhappened.....
Smalldropletsofsaltywaterstartedextractingthemselvesfromthe
palmsoftheirtremblinghandsandthemusclesoftheireyesunderwent
excercisesneverbeforeexperiencedinadesperateattempttofolloweach
andeverymovementofeachandeveryparticleofHerbodyandthelucky
airatomsencirclingitwhilstnotdaringtomovetheirheadsinHer
direction.
ItwasasifVenusHerselfhadchosentoreturntothisEarth.They
frozeandHersmilerenderedthemtotallyhelpless.Slightlydrooling
frommiscellaneouspartsoftheiroralcavities,theyfollowedHerto
theirtableafterwhichShedisappearedinacloudofloveliness.
Theylookedateachotherandnoticedeyesthatsawnothing,that
couldnolongeraccomodatethemselvestoproperdistancesandthatwere
alltogetherquitedumbfoundedwiththepurestastoundingamazement
imaginable.
MomentslaterShereturnedholdingtwolittleglasses.
AstheylookedintoHereyesasSheputtheglassesonthetable,it
wasiftheywitnessedtheAnswertoEverything.AsSheagainleft,they
spentminutesstaringatthefingerprintsSheleftbehindontheglasses.
Slowly,withtremblinghands,theytooktheirfirstcarefulsips.Itwas
likethefirstgaspofoxygenababytakesafterbeinggentlyremoved
Çfromitsmothers'wombandputonthemysteriousgreen-and-blueplanetwe
callEarth.
"Gosh...."wasallStefancouldutteratthemoment.
Richardactedasifstrickenbylightninganddidnotevenattemptto
movehislipstosayanything.
WheneverShewouldpassby,orevenbecomeslightlyvisible,
conversationwouldstopabruptly,wordswouldhangfeeblyintheair
beforetheywouldfallhelplesslytotheground.Silencewouldthen
striketheirtableandtheirmindswouldbedeafenedbythoughtsof
utmostdelightandpleasure.
Whentakingtheirorderssomeminuteslater,Hereyesoncemoremet
theirs.Theonlythingtostrikethemwastheimperceptiblesimilitude
betweenthesedeepwellsofserenityandaTotalPerspectiveVortexthe
likesofwhichhadneverearlierbeenseeneverbythemorbyanyonein
orbeyondtheinfinitereachesofourUniverse.
"Ifthere'saGod,thismustbethemostperfectspecimenofHis
creationobtainable,"theyboththoughtasitstruckthemthatShetalked
friendly,withnosignofcontemptorconceitwhatsoever,speakingto
meremortalslikethem.Hervoicesoundedlikegoldenbellstingling
throughthehumidmeadowsofsomefaranddistantcountrycapturedin
someoldandforgottendream.
Theirheadsweresobusyprocessingalltheirsense'simpressionsthat
Çtheyforgottokeeptheirmouthsclosed,felttheirkneesweakenandfelt
altogethermuchlikeahoneyjarwithnojar.
Richardhadneverknownhehadthatmanyribsuntilhefelthisheart
poundingagainsteachoneofthem.
WatchingHerwalkawayfromtheirtabletofetchtheorderedfood
(Keftedesandthe"ZorbaDish"),wewitnessedthePerfectMovement.Her
bodymovedtoandfroasatenderbutterflyinanapril-morningbreeze,
paradingHerphysicsasthetopotypeexampleofharmonyinitsutmost
perfection.ItwasasifasuddenvoidwasdrawnbehindHer;avacuumin
whicheverythingandeverybodyseemedtofadeawayintomereoblivion,
wherenothingwouldbeabletosurvivenexttoHerbeautyasShemelted
awayinthepinkmistsofsensuality.
Itwasasthoughthewholeprincipleoflocomotionwasjustinvented
forHertobeabletowalklikeShedid,makingeveryothermovement,
eventheslowunfoldingofadaffodilinthefreshmorningsun,seem
utterlyandgrotesquelyrudeandturgid.
AllStefancoulddowassighingaprofoundwishwhichhadsomethingto
dowithreincarnatingasapairofnylons.
Again,Richardactedasifstrickenbylightning,notabletosay
anything,hearanything,orseeanythingotherthanthisgirl.
Bothguys'mindsweretakenupbythethoughtofthebeautifulcountry
ofGreece.WasisperhapsworthmigratingtothatsunnyMediterraenean
Çcountrywheresuchbeautifulgirlsroam?Wouldn'titbebeyond
perfectionismtowalktogetherwithHeralongabeach,withasettingsun
inthedistance?
HerBodyhadashapeasthoughformedbysculptorsofoldintheir
mostsupremetrialtoreproducewhatevertheythoughttobeLovely,
Lackadaisical,LusciousandLecherous,thelikesofwhichwouldevencast
adarkanddismalshadowuponAphrodite,GoddessofLove,Herself.Her
longfairhairfellaroundHershouldersandbackasthoughitwasa
Goldenornamenttoemphasizeherbeauty;Herlegsweresimplygorgeous
andreallyfartooexcellentlyshapedjusttofunctionaslocomotory
devices.
Thefoodwaseatenwithtaste,buttheirthoughtswerewiththis
beautifulfemalespecimenofmankindratherthanthedeliciouslyprepared
meatsandsaucestheGreektableproudlyoffered.Whentheyfinallysat
backafterawhile,andstartedtorelaxabitafterthewonderfully
superbmealtheyhadjustdevoured,thegirlcameback,onceagain
puttingahalttowhateverconversationwastakingplace,andfilling
boththeirmindswiththeearliermentionedthoughtsofutmostdelight
andpleasure.
TheyfelttheyhaddeservedsomeCognacV.S.O.P.now,thatwouldalso
helpthemtothinkoverthenextstep:WhatwouldbeHername?Theyjust
ähadÇtofindout!Theythereforeorderedsomeofit,whilecarefully
contemplatingabouthowtoaskHer.
Justwhentheywereabouttoleave,Shewascleaningatablebehind
themandShetouchedStefan;atremblespeddownhisspinalchordand
senthimshiveringwithromance.
Then,inanoutburstoffeelings,hemanagedtospeak.
"Whatisyourname?"heaskedwithanunstablevoice.
"Agapi"Shereplied,speakingthesemerewordswithalmostdivine
resonance.ItwasasthoughwordstookfantasticshapeswhenShespoke
them;onecouldalmostsmellthewords,scentinglikerosesandripening
heather,andfeelthemlikeagentlecaress.Thewholeideaofspeechwas
takentounsuspectedheights,asthisgirladdedfourthandevenfifth
dimensionstoeverythingconnectedwiththissimplemeansof
communication.
Beingsomewhatshakenbythatunusualreply,Stefanrepeatedhis
question,thistimewithasuddenresolutioninhisvoice.
"Er...youknow,wearemakingamagazine......",Richardinterrupted,
hesitating.
TheytoldHereverythingSheneededtoknowabouttheirmagazine,üST
NEWSÇ,andthefactthattheywereimpressedtosuchanextendbythe
food,butmoreparticularlyHerservice,thattheyfeltobligedto
dedicatetheirmagazinetoHer.Theybothblushedheavily,andeachword
Çtheyspokewasstrugglingtocomeout.Sheseemedenormouslyflatteredby
thisgesture,andasmileofsmileswasseenbythetwofreaksthat
nearlyfaintedatthesightofit.
Finally,theysubjugatedalltheirpowerofwilltoofferHeraRed
Rose;themosthighlywroughtlikenessofHerbeauty,Heradorable
fragilityandHerepicvivacitypossiblyconceivable.Anevenmorelovely
smilethaneverseenbeforebythehumaneyedawnedslowlyuponHermoist
lips;tinydiamondscouldbeseenglitteringbrazenlyinHereyesbefore
Shecastthemdown,blushing.
Whentheylefttherestaurant,alltheycouldmanagetodowassimply
beingoverwhelmedbyjoy,spontaneouslycryingdeafeningcriesof
emotion,jumpingintheairwithincrediblevigour,andgenerallybeing
highlyinlove:Lovethathadsuddenlydivulgedfromtheverydepthsof
theirinnerselvesmuchinthewaylikevolcanicmagmadivulgedfromthe
Krakatauoveracenturyback.
ThishadbeenoneofthenicestHCCdaysever!

tojustabouteveryonepresentintheRestaurant.Weboughtone.

foralongtime.Well,weweresurelylove-strickentoanextendnever
beforeexperienced,butithadalreadycompletelywornoffthenext

westilldidso.Andnotawordofwhichissaidisexaggerated,we
canassureyou,sowestillthinkShequiterightlydeservesit.We
thinktheextendofourpoeticinspirationtellsyouenoughaboutHer
