- STARTING A GAME: THE RANDOM LUCK OF CHARACTER GENERATION
-
- When you select a new game from the main menu, you are presented with
- a screen which asks you which character class you would like to play with.
- You options are: FIGHTER, THEIF, MAGE, and THUG. Once you select your char-
- acter's class, a complete character, whose stats are displayed on the screen
- is generated for you. If you wish to keep the character press the "y" key.
- If you want to try your luck at getting a better character, then press the
- "n" key. if you wish to return to the class selection menu, press the "ESC"
- key. As is always the case, the different classes have different strengths
- and weaknesses in their characteristics.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- MORTONVILLE: TOWN OF THE ADVENTURER
-
- After you have chosen your character, you are faced with the main menu
- for the town of Mortonville. From the town's menu you have the option to
- enter the weapons shop, stay at the Econo - Inn, visit the oracle for advice,
- enter the dungeon, or quit to DOS.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- THE WEAPONS SHOP
-
- Once you enter the weapons shop, the screen changes to display the
- gold you have handy, and the weapons which are available to your character.
- When you buy a weapon from the list, its cost is automatically subtracted
- from your gold. Note that since there is no place in the game where you can
- equip your weapon, your equiped weapon is which ever weapon you bought last,
-
- continued on page 2
-
-
-
-
- or in the case of starting a new game, your characters starting weapon.
- (The starting weapons for each character class are found further on in this
- manual.) There is no warning to deter you from buying a weapon which is
- inferior to the one you already have. If you do do this, your weapon attack
- will change to that of the inferior weapon, which is basicly a large waste
- of gold.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- THE ECONO-INN
-
- The Econo-Inn is just that, economical. The prices do vary slightly
- depending on which class of character you chose. However, the effects are
- still the same. When you stay at the Econo-Inn, you will regain all of your
- hit and spell points. You will also gain a level if you have gained enough
- experience. Due to the very cheap price, you should be able to afford to stay
- at the inn as often as need be to regain your hit and spell points so that
- you are able to battle your way through the game.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- THE ORACLE
-
- When you visit the house of the oracle, the oracle gives you a little bit
- of advice. These tidbits of advice change as you reach higher levels. Once you
- have reached level twenty, you will always get the message "Your training is
- complete, good luck on your quest!".
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ENTERING THE DUNGEONS
-
- When you choose to enter the dungeons, a screen will pop up wishing you
- luck. With the press of a key, you begin your "on the job training" in the art
- of combat. To return to town, simply make sure you are on level one and hit
- the "H" key. This function and others are documented further inside the game's
- help files.
