  12.           "Shareware" is a form of distribution that gives users a chance to
  13.      try software before buying it. If you try a shareware program and
  14.      continue using it, you are expected to pay for it, just like you must pay
  15.      for commercial software from a retail store.  Copyright laws protect the
  16.      rights of shareware authors just as they do big companies like Microsoft.

  18.           Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
  19.      authors, and many shareware programs are of quality comparable to the
  20.      best commercial programs.  (In both cases, there are good programs and
  21.      bad ones.)  The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
  22.      shareware author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
  23.      evaluation edition of his software, either to all or to specific groups
  24.      meeting certain criteria.  For example, some authors require written
  25.      permission before a commercial disk vendor may include their shareware in
  26.      a CD-ROM collection for retail sale.

  28.           Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  29.      should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
  30.      commercial or shareware. The shareware system makes fitting your needs
  31.      easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is
  32.      low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee
  33.      -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  161.           As noted above, the basic licensing "unit" is the individual user
  162.      (as opposed, for example, to the individual machine), and the person
  163.      licensed to use CMFiler may have as many copies on as many machines as
  164.      he/she wishes, under the condition that he/she reasonably assures that
  165.      those copies are not regularly used by others in a fashion that
  166.      circumvents their obligation to also purchase.

  168.           For a "corporate" user, in which a company or school wishes to
  169.      provide CMFiler as a workplace resource for employees or students, the
  170.      company will purchase an individual license for a specific user, and
  171.      then, on the same CASH.FRM order form, extend that license to multiple
  172.      users in any combination of two ways:

  174.           1.  The individual license may be extended at any time to any number
  175.      of additional "unsupported" users at the rate of $7.50 per additional
  176.

  178.      user ($5 per additional student user for schools), with no increment in
  179.      the original benefits (ie., no additional hard copies of manual will be
  180.      sent, and technical support will be  provided only to the original
  181.      licensee).

  183.           (NoVaSoft recognizes that the number of users afforded access to
  184.      CMFiler in a large company or network will vary as employees come and go
  185.      and users are added and subtracted, and so we ask only for a good-faith
  186.      estimate, BUT based on the total number of users afforded access, NOT on
  187.      some lower estimate of the number of users who might be using CMFiler
  188.      simultaneously.  Once the company or school extends its original license
  189.      to additional unsupported users in this fashion, it may at its own
  190.      expense print this number of additional manuals and disks to distribute
  191.      to the addition users.  We have priced this license extension so
  192.      reasonably that this additional cost per additional user is affordable
  193.      for the smallest to the largest company, and represents a small fraction
  194.      of the workplace productivity gain benefiting each additional user.)

  196.           2.   It may also be extended to additional "supported" users at the
  197.      rate of $15 per user.  NoVaSoft will send to the original licensee one
  198.      complete package (disks plus manual and any current material fringe
  199.      benefits) per additional user.

  201.           In either case of site license extension, the users added to the
  202.      original licensed are licensed to use CMFiler ONLY in the workplace for
  203.      which the license extension was purchased.  Any users who wish to use
  204.      CMFiler outside of that environment MUST purchase their own CMFiler from
  205.      NoVaSoft.

  209.      Further Distribution of the Shareware Edition of CMFiler. . .

  211.           Distributors and BBS who belong to the Association of Shareware
  212.      Professionals (ASP) may offer CMFiler in their catalogs/BBS services
  213.      immediately, and will automatically receive updates on the ASP author-to-
  214.      vendor CD-ROM by virtue of their ASP membership.  Other distributors
  215.      whose only remuneration is a nominal fee for the disk itself, and whose
  216.      literature makes it clear to their buyers that the program material is
  217.      for evaluation only and must be separately purchased from the author if
  218.      it is used past the evaluation period, may also offer CMFiler
  219.      immediately, but should inform me so that I can provide them periodic
  220.      updates.  Distributors who wish to sell CMFiler packaged as or in a
  221.      retail product must contact me, and are NOT authorized to distribute
