- THE RARE DOCUMENTATION CENTRE

- The RARE-documentation centre is a specialized international
- focal point for the storage, computer processing and dissemination of
- information in the field of networking, telecommunications,
- standardization, OSI etc.
-
- What material is stored and made available and how is this information
- structured?
-
- The documentation centre gathers, processes and disseminates two
- groups of information-sources; those which are generated within the
- RARE community (internal) and those which are generated outside the
- RARE community (external).

- Internal information consists of :
-
- - material from the RARE Working Groups and Task Forces
- (agendas, meeting accounts, technical reports,
- correspondence etc.)
-
- - material from the REC and COA
-
- - material from the RARE Secretariat
-
- - information about and from RARE projects
-
- - information about RARE community members (addresses, kind of
- involvement)
-
- - information about institutions which have contacts with RARE
- (addresses, nature of involvement etc.)
-
- External information exist of :
-
- Monographs, standards, annual reports, (articles from)
- periodicals, journals and newspapers, newsletters, bulletins,
- conference reports and proceedings, agendas for coming events,
- on-line discussion panels, draft documents, bibliographies,
- directories, catalogues, on-line databases, cd roms.

- The structuring of the information :
-
- The main directory on "The RARE Document Store" is subdivided by
- 5 subdirectories : address, archive, calendar,doc and procedures.

- address : contains address-lists of RARE-community members
-
- archive : contains minutes and other documents produced by
- the RARE Working Groups, COA, RTC etc.
-
- calendar : contains events, seminars, the RARE meeting list
- etc.
-
- doc : contains articles, journals, reports and RARE
- Technical Reports

- Procedures : contains rules and regulations for updating and
- maintaining the RARE Document Store
-
- The RARE Document Store resides on a machine at the RARE Secretariat.
