After 1870, some of the grander Parisian "houses of tolerance" became "houses of debauchery" offering a variety of erotic entertainments and spectacles for high society. There was something for tastes and perversions of every stripe.
For the voyeur there were elaborately staged lesbian S & M scenes with leather straps and dildoes, as well as scenes of nuns being raped. There were orgy rooms for the more sociable types, electric-shock machines for sado-masochists, and large dogs for those who preferred man's best friend to man's better half.
