Japanese folklore is full of stories of bestiality in which animals disguise themselves as human beings to seduce women. These animal humans are called "bakemono." They may be as varied as serpents, cranes, snails, horses, or dogs. In one well-known print by the artist Hokusai, a woman lies under the voluptuous, all-engaging suction cups of a large octopus.
