- ~~AS> other states. Somewhere, English has to become the primary language
- ~~AS> so that deaf children can become proficient at reading and writing
- ~~AS> English. It is really needed when they become grown and go out
- ~~AS> to live independent lives. Let's face it, the hearing world
- ~~AS> is NOT going to learn ASL, sure there will be a few but the
- ~~AS> overall general consensus is not going to do it.
-
- ~Agreed wholeheartedly!
-
- ~We cannot expect the hearing world to bend backwards to learn
- ~ASL---only a minority ever will. There is just not enough
- ~incentive for all hearing people to learn it.
-
- Nice! I think all of us need to do a little more 'bending'. Huh?
- Minority? Yeah, but aren't they great.
- Incentive? How 'bout a kick in our lazy behinds?
-
- ~Anyway, it seems that deafness strikes at the heart of
- ~communication in a deeper and more devastating way than blindness
- ~ever does. Blind people are still in touch with the hearing
- ~world--they just miss the visual part. On the other hand, visual
- ~cues are just not enough for deaf people to be in touch with the
- ~hearing world-- hearing seems to be more vital for communication
- ~with the hearing world.
-
- Couldn't have put it better myself. Thanks.
