  14. I need recommendations on fax and scanner software and hardware
  15. systems for use on a Sun SPARCstation 2.

  17. I have been asked to propose an integrated data collection /
  18. dissemination system using fax and scanner technology on a Sun
  19. SPARCstation 2 system.
  20.  
  21. We will receive data via paper-mail, e-mail, fax, and on disks which
  22. we will organize and store in some common format (if possible).  This
  23. information will contain mostly text with a couple of simple line
  24. drawings of laboratory apparatus or graphs. This
  25. information will be retrieved via paper-mail, e-mail, or fax, or
  26. possibly viewed on-screen.

  28. We would also like to send e-mail to a mailing list and have the mail
  29. sent electronically to those we have e-mail addresses for, by fax for
  30. those whom we have fax numbers but no e-mail address, and by
  31. paper-mail for the rest.

  33. Our staff has shell script, awk, and perl experience and would
  34. be able to write whatever filters, etc.. are needed to tie things
  35. together, as long as the fax and scanning software/hardware had
  36. command line interfaces.

  38. I need recommendations on FAX and scanner hardware and software
  39. we should consider.  What have you had good experience with? What did
  40. you buy? How has it worked?  What do you recommend for my application?
