- []In article <5136@blue.cis.pitt.edu.UUCP>
- []cjp@unix.cis.pitt.edu (Casimir J Palowitch) writes: On
- []April 9th, I ordered and prepaid with a credit card for a 14.4
- []Supra fax/modem from BFJ Enterprises of Roswell GA, on the
- []advice of other netters. I was told there was a waiting list, but
- []that with pre-paid status, I would be one of the first 100 or so.
- []
- []I called to check the status of my order every couple of weeks,
- []and was told very helpfully by the BFJ staff of my progress from
- []98th, to 76th, to 60th. My most recent call was on August 6th,
- []when I was told I was 20th. That same call I was told another
- []interesting bit of information by the BFJ staffperson.
- []Apparently, Supra was upset that BFJ was selling its modem so
- []cheaply. Supra was feeling heat from other dealers, who were
- []complaining about BFJ's low price of $289.00. The staffperson
- []made the suggestion that Supra was or was intending to restrict
- []shipments of modems to BFJ for this reason.
- []
- []I have not been able to contact BFJ since. I have called several
- []times a day to the two toll-free numbers and the two other
- []numbers I've tracked down for them, but no one answers the
- []lines.
- []
-
- I have had almost exactly the same experience (I was the person who posted
- on this subject last week, and was also one of the people who *thought*
- BFJ was a good place to get the modem from. Now I know how the Neuron
- people feel. . . . . NAH, it hasn't been THAT bad! :-)
-
-
- []I called yesterday to Supra, who told me that several others had
- []called about this matter. They had no information on BFJ, and
- []were not able to say anything substantial about their
- []shipments of modems to BFJ. They refused entirely to assist me
- []in securing the delivery of their product.
- []
-
- Again, I'm one of those people. I've called Supra, the 800 number
- operator, etc. etc.
-
- []Does anyone have any information about BFJ? There was a post
- []last week by someone in the same situation. Any news?
- []
- []I have begun the process of refund with my credit card company,
- []but I would much rather see a modem, especially having waited
- []four and a half months already. Anyone have any ideas?
-
- This was just posted to comp.dcom.modem (where this has been a *really*
- hot thread for about a week now. I include the whole post and you cna
- make of it what you will. I will say, however, that I spoke to people at
- BFJ just a couple of days before they stopped answering the phone and no
- one mentioned *anything* about remodeling, and it seems odd that a
- computer and electronics firm can't manage to have a couple of telephone
- answering machines. Still, my decision, for the moment is to wait until I
- know more definitely what is going to happen since I don't want to go
- through the hassles with my credit card company unless I have to. What I
- *really* want is my modem!
-
- Hope this is Helpful ---- Tom

- I just called up the Roswell mall (where BFJ is located), and
- spoke to the mall business manager about BFJ.
-
- To put it briefly, he is as mystified as the rest of us.
-
- He has not seen Jeff Weiss, the owner, since about the 14th. The
- store is shut, with a "Closed for two weeks renovation" sign.
- Considerable merchandise is visible through the window. UPS has tried
- and failed a number of times to make deliveries. On or about the 14th,
- Mr. Weiss told the manager he would try to re-open soon.
-
- The manager has tried the number he had for Mr. Weiss's home, but
- it is disconnected. He thinks it's possible that the number is simply
- out of date (it's quite old). Roswell directory inquiries produces a
- "Geoffrey Weiss" in Dunwiddy (sp?) who says he is NOT associated with
- BFJ, but is apparently getting a lot of phonecalls on the topic.
-
- It seems Jeff Weiss took over the business a year or so ago
- following his father's death.
-
- I'll try the mall manager again on Monday, and see if there is
- any change.
