- I need some help figuring out how to setup a default router under
- NW/386. Suppose that my NW/386 box is acting as a TCP/IP router for two
- attached ethernet segments (A and B), and suppose further that it is attached to a
- third segment (let's name it C) that runs a UNIX box that acts as the gateway to the
- Internet.
-
- My question is how to I setup the NW/386 routing tables so that the UNIX
- gateway will be the default router for any packets that the NW/386
- router can't resolve (i.e., anything that is destined for the Internet).
- As things stand now, machines on networks A and B are able to route
- packets to machines on A, B, or C, but not to the Internet. Machines on
- C are able to get out to the Internet, but that's because they aren't
- even using the NW/386 TCP router. Does the BIND command for A and B
- need to use the GATE parameter to reference the UNIX gateway on C, or
- does the GATE parameter get used on the BIND for C? Should I adjust the
- COST parameter for the segments that have a GATE parameter to prevent
- the router from using the default gateway before checking for other
- paths? Any help is appreciated.
