- I too have an update, which I feel is important.
-
- It appears that many of the desktop file related problem I had reported the
- other day (with regards to SS), were not caused by SS, as far as I can tell.
- I removed all the desktop related files (I could have sworn I had done this
- before!), and many of the problems went away (icons were restored, no more
- "missing application" messages).
-
- All in all, the behaviour was much more deterministic.
-
- I still am having some problems with it, which Aladdin is aware of:
- 1) "Get Info" causes files to be uncompressed.
- Aladdin is considering a hack that would understand the finder's intentions
- and not uncompress the file (unlikely you will see this for a while).
- 2) No easy way to accuratly determine how much space is being save by compressed
- files.
- 3) Files getting uncompressed when the desktop is rebuilt. It is likely you will
- see a patch for this before too like (I hope!).
-
- Other problems I have reported:
- 1) DiskFit Pro uncompresses the files when backing up.
- 2) Running a script did not "compress" files, it just stuffed them, resulting in
- 0% space saving in SD 3.0
