- Hmm. What *do* you have in the UK? I have heard, but cannot
- verify, that the US is the only industrialized nation that
- doesn't have a written portion to their national testing program.

- I didn't have to write a single essay to get into college of grad
- school (ie, on a test). And those scantron machines don't have
- friends.

- However, there have been rumblings that a major testing program
- will administer a writing portion.

- I have read a little on computerized aids for graders and I think
- we can go a long way towards making such a test or subtest
- reliabale. Whether it has any more validity remains to be seen.
