-
- 1. Installation information
-
- 2. Information for users of prior versions of
- Milestones.
-
- 3. Information about the symbol text feature
-
- 4. Details on function key and mouse button usage
- not documented in the manual.
-
- 5. Information about the "Substitute Raster Screen Fonts"
- and "What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG)"
-
- Installation Information
- ------------------------
- Please install Milestones, Etc. 3.0 using the installation procedure
- documented in the manual.
-
- The installation program does not work when started from File Manager,
- but works great when installed from Program Manager's File ... Run,
- as detailed in the manual.
-
- Important Information for users of previous versions of
- Milestones, Etc.
- --------------------------------------------------------------
-
- All Milestones, Etc. 3.0 charts have two files associated with
- them. The template file (file type MTP) contains the basic
- formatting information, while the chart file (file type ML3)
- contains the schedule information.
-
- In previous versions of Milestones, Etc., all information was
- saved in one file (file type MLS).
-
- Milestones, Etc. version 3.0 is able to read or "open" files
- created with prior versions of Milestones, Etc. Follow the
- steps detailed below to convert your MLS files for use with
- Milestones, Etc. 3.0:
-
- 1. Select Open>Chart on the Milestones, Etc. 3.0 File Menu.
-
- 2. Locate the MLS file to be converted by moving through the
- directory list. For this example we will call the file XXXX.MLS
- (Throughout this example, replace XXXX with your actual file
- name)
-
- 3. The chart will be displayed on the screen. Note that a toolbox
- has been built for this chart. The toolbox displays all the
- different symbol and connector types that were in use in the MLS
- chart.
-
- 4. Select SAVE AS>TEMPLATE. Fill in the Name XXXX.MTP (this
- example only. When you do this, use the name of your old MLS
- file, but with extension MTP).
-
- 5. Select SAVE AS>CHART. Fill in the name XXXX.ML3 (this example
- only. When you do this, use your chart's name). It is
- important that you save the chart second. The chart file
- contains the name of your template file. If the template has
- not been saved, the right name will not be saved in your chart
- file. (causing unpredictable results when you call up the chart
- next time!)
-
- Repeat the above procedure (steps 1-5) for each chart that you
- created with previous versions of Milestones, Etc.
-
- Information about Symbol Text
- -----------------------------
- The symbol text feature was not mentioned in great enough detail in
- the manual. The following offers additional information on this
- important feature:
-
- Symbol text can be associated with any symbol on your chart.
- To place this text, click once on the symbol with the text
- tool. You will be presented with a dialog box. Within the
- dialog box is a field (upper right) for entering a text
- string for the symbol. The dialog box also offers choices
- on positioning of the text. You may choose where it is
- to be located in reference to the symbol (above, below,
- middle, and left, right, center).
-
- Symbol text is a convenient way to annotate symbols and
- connector bars and is often more appropriate than the
- "freeform text".
-
- Function key & Mouse Button usage
- ----------------------------------
- Several of our beta testers suggested usage of function keys and
- mouse buttons. Their functions are:
-
- F9 - Refreshes the screen
-
- F11 - Switches between actual view and fit in window view
-
- F12 - Switches the toolbox mode (between add, change, and text)
-
- INS - Toggles Insert mode (for inserting task lines in between
- two that are already in place.) The display of the
- text tool in the toolbox will change when you are in
- insert mode.
-
- Right Mouse Button - Switches between actual view and fit
- in window view
-
- Middle Mouse Button - Switches between tool modes in the
- toolbox (add, change, and text tools)
-

- About WYSIWYG &
-
- Substituting Raster GDI Screen Fonts
- ------------------------------------
- Depending on the font configuration you have installed in your
- Windows environment, you may not get a good match between the text
- that is displayed on your screen and the text that is printed on
- your printer. For example, a string of text may "just fit" on the
- screen, but might come out too long on the printer.
-
- Depending upon the fonts you have selected, de-selecting the
- "Substitute Raster Screen Fonts" option on the Text Menu may
- improve the match between what you see on the screen and what
- is printed on your printer.
-
- Another way to alleviate this problem is to purchase a set of
- add-on typefaces for your computer. Adobe Type Manager (ATM)
- has proven to be an excellent choice and when used with Milestones,
- Etc. gives good WYSIWYG ("What You See is What You Get")
