- MEGASYS COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES SUPPLIES ALPHA AXP-BASED
- SOLUTIONS FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANIES
-
-
- Now Being Installed to Monitor Telecommunications
- Networks of US Sprint and Hyperion
-
-
- MAYNARD, Mass., January 27, 1993 -- MegaSys Computer Technologies of
- Calgary, Alberta, Canada has placed an initial order for more than
- two dozen DEC 3000 Model 400 and Model 500 AXP workstations to
- supply its process control solutions to the telecommunications
- industry.
-
- MegaSys' systems currently are being installed and will be used
- to monitor the telecommunications networks of US Sprint, a major
- U.S. telecommunications company, and Hyperion, a Pennsylvania-
- based nationwide competitive access provider. The MegaSys Alpha AXP
- workstation-based systems ensure that millions of phone calls get
- successfully routed through fiber optic networks across North
- America. The MegaDac software monitors voice quality and the
- operational status of a varied array of telecommunications equipment
- and configurations.
-
- MegaSys is a software engineering firm committed to the design
- of customized data management solutions including high-resolution
- graphics, real-time alarming systems, and high-speed database
- access. MegaSys designed its MegaDac solution as a powerful,
- flexible customized monitoring system for telecommunications
- companies that need rapid access to network alarm information.
- Using the X Window graphical user interface, MegaDac gives clients
- the power to graphically monitor and control alarms coming from
- field equipment for more efficient and effective network trouble-
- shooting.
-
- Porting MegaDac -- an OpenVMS-based application -- from a VAX
- platform to the Alpha AXP platform took only 60 man-hours to
- complete.
-
- "Network monitoring with our MegaDac system on the Alpha AXP
- platform means unparalleled, revolutionary processing performance.
- In our business, speed is everything," said MegaSys President Dave
- Woronuk. MegaSys selected the Alpha AXP architecture because of its
- performance and anticipated 25-year design life. "These factors,
- combined with the portability of our software design, will put us at
- least one year ahead of our competition," said Woronuk. "The fact
- that the Alpha AXP architecture can support the DEC OSF/1 operating
- system also is important, since most telecommunications companies
- have UNIX-based applications," he said.
-
- Digital Equipment Corporation, headquartered in Maynard,
- Massachusetts, is the leading worldwide supplier of networked
- computer systems, software and services. Digital pioneered and
- leads the industry in interactive, distributed and multivendor
- computing. Digital and its business partners deliver the power to
- use the best integrated solutions - from desktop to data center -
- in open information environments.
