  25. You *bet* I'll comment!!  Thanks to Jenna for informing me of these revolting
  26. developments, and to Brad for listing me first among his objections.  Not
  27. that I have anything <personal> against NC, TX, MS, Eire, and Ontario, but...
  28. my three-week sojourn across these here U-nited States seemed just *so* 
  29. perfect.  Guys, I'll already be in San Diego the weekend before the big event,
  30. so call me an honorary Left Coaster for this one.

  32. What's the objection to Portland?  That Clint and Carol haven't breathlessly
  33. informed you of every detail of their arrangements?  As I recall, many of last
  34. year's clambakers stayed in motels scattered halfway across Narragansett Bay;
  35. surely such places exist in and around Portland.  In addition, we'll have 
  36. Jenna's list of B&Bs (always a great way to visit a town).  Or is it the 
  37. distance from where some of us are located?  Seems to me that, with a bit of
  38. foresight, anyone on this side of the pond can get to Oregon for a decent 
  39. price -- surely not more than two or three times the price I'd pay merely to
  40. fly across Pennsylvania.  The train is a civilized way to travel, if a bit
  41. pricey when the accommodations are added in -- I might also suggest looking
  42. into Amtrak's Fly/Rail combo, where you take the train one way and fly the
  43. other.  I did that a couple of years ago, and I know it allows 2-3 stopovers
  44. on the train trip.

  46. Anyway, my vote is *emphatically* in support of Portland.
