- Things brings up a question. My wife is in a support group for
- cancer spouses, and one of their husbands has the same problem.
- He is currently taking interferon and going down to M.D.Anderson
- every three months. It is expected that he needs a bone marrow
- transplant to survive. They have found someone that *almost* matches,
- and they are willing to make an attempt if nothing better happens.
- (BTW, his two brothers are exact matches....for each other)
-
- So my wife decided to get typed. But they wont let her. They
- insist that we cant give blood or even have our marrow typed
- because we have been in a malarial region within the past 3 years.
- I guess I can understand why they don't want her blood, but why
- do they refuse to even type her marrow? For that matter, can
- someone who has had cancer donate marrow? The blood bank wontt
- take blood from anyone that has had cancer within the past 10
- years.
-
- Just curious. (BTW, good luck, I hope you can find a match)
